Current Research @ Tulane University (Restrictied Access: Tulane EZproxy link) Access limited to selected IP addresses/network

Tulane dissertations are available to Tulane students and faculty on the campus network via a service from ProQuest/University Microfilms International called Current Research @ which provides a digital library of the dissertations from Tulane submitted to UMI since 1997. These are full-text copies in .pdf format, similar in print quality to paper copies available from UMI and often better quality than the microform versions. The Current Research@Tulane database contains the early abstracts and indexing for Tulane dissertations that are included in the broader Dissertation Abstracts database.   http://ezproxy.tis.tulane.edu:2048/login?url=http://wwwlib.umi.com/cr/tulane/main/

Dissertation Availability Information.

Non-Tulane dissertations and theses are difficult to obtain from the libraries of granting institutions since many universities keep only a non-circulating archival copy. The Medical Library Interlibrary Loan Department may sometimes be able to obtain loans from libraries that hold circulating copies on behalf of Tulane University Health Science faculty, students and staff.

If we are unable to obtain a loan copy of a doctoral dissertation, the following information may be of help in obtaining the documents you require:

  • U.S. Dissertations
Check the Dissertation Abstracts database in ProQuest. Students, faculty, staff and researchers can now order their own unbound copies of dissertations and theses with express delivery from over one million titles available from UMI (a commercial supplier of U.S. dissertations).

Copies of dissertations are available for purchase from UMI Dissertation Express. Identify dissertations by entering the UMI order number (Accession No. - enter the last seven characters of the accession number -- Example: for citation DA9412718, you should enter "9412718") from Dissertation Abstracts (ProQuest).

  • Foreign Dissertations
Requests for dissertations from foreign countries may be submitted to the Center for Research Libraries (CRL) by CRL member libraries, such as Tulane University. Records for foreign dissertations titles (comprehensive collection) are not available in the CRL catalog. Search the CRL Foreign Doctoral Dissertations Database, but remember that CRL has a large number of uncataloged foreign doctoral dissertations. CRL will try to purchase an unowned dissertation on request of a member library for its own collection and then loan the item. This process takes at least three months or longer.

Tulane University Health Science faculty, students and staff should contact the Medical Library's ILL Office for assistance.

Intelletual Property
While you are welcome to read and take notes from Tulane theses and dissertations, you may not photocopy from Tulane theses and dissertations without the written permission of the author. However, copies of dissertations are available for purchase through UMI.
